Non-Anesthetic Dental Cleaning

Non-anesthetic dental cleaning may be an appropriate option for select patients with mild dental tartar and minimal periodontal disease. This approach allows for the removal of supragingival plaque and calculus while the patient is conscious, avoiding the risks associated with general anesthesia—particularly in senior pets or those with underlying medical conditions.

When performed on appropriate candidates, non-anesthetic dental care can help reduce bacterial load in the oral cavity, slow the progression of periodontal disease, and support overall oral hygiene as part of a preventive care plan.

However, not every patient is a candidate, as the level of dental disease and patient temperament must be carefully considered to ensure safe and effective care. A comprehensive oral health assessment with Dr. Cook or Dr. Tia is recommended to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for your pet. Based on this evaluation, we will guide you toward the best option for your pet’s dental health—whether that includes non-anesthetic cleaning for maintenance or a fully anesthetic dental procedure for more advanced care.

Our goal is to provide safe, individualized dental care that supports your pet’s long-term oral and overall health.
